throwing and kicking

Something is going on this weekend. Some big game where people throw and kick stuff. I'm not sure exactly what is going on, but it's supposed to be a big deal.

We were talking about snacks guys could make that are easy and don't take long. I don't know if it's a guy thing, but I don't like complicated or long recipes. If my food can't be ready in five minutes, I don't want it.

That's probably why I eat a lot of cereal. Prep time is quick and the ingredients are short. VERY easy.

I love it when people say, "Oh, this recipe is EASY! It only takes about 20 minutes."

WHAT!!!!!!! 20 minutes! What am I supposed to do for that time?! Play with my nose goblins?! (Old Ren and Stimpy reference)

Anyways, go watch that sport with feet and a ball or something. I thing some guy will do something on a field. So...go team!

I'm off to cheer for a touchdown goal homerun.

Enjoy!

paradiddle

A lot of folks might not know this, but I used to be a drummer. That's right, waaaaaaaay back in the day, I had a drum set and would rock on with my clock on. (get it? because the drummer keeps time in the band? time...clock? funny? eh...)

A paradiddle is a type of pattern you hit the drum with. It's one of the many rock and roll drum beats I learned. How did I learn to rock so hard? Carmine Appice. Yep. The famous drummer from the late 60's rock band Vanilla Fudge. What a great name, right? He wrote books on drum technique. You should check out his web page.
http://www.carmineappice.net/home.html

See how cool he was? I learned from the best.

Anyways, back when I was in a band called "$240 Worth of Pudding" (almost as clever as "Vanilla Fudge"), I had an appreciation for all things drum. Maybe someday I'll tell you all about "Two-Forty", as we liked to call ourselves.

This guy I found online rocks. What makes him so cool? He plays along with Super Mario Bros. Yeah. Awesome. Check it out. I love double bass drum. That's the big drum on the floor, if you're not a drummer. It's that buddabuddabuddabudda sound.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EF9e2ZVAapE&feature=user

I like it. I wish I could still play. Oh well.

I'm off to flam. (another drum thing)

Enjoy!

car crash

Well, my car got a good smack on the butt on Friday night. It was exciting. I was on my way to visit some friends when my car got hit.

I was at the stop light in front of IHOP on rt. 20. Then, there was a loud SCREEEEEEEEEEEECH!!!!!!! Followed by a WOBOLSELEJOWWWODKLSLJFWOWOW!!!! (That's me getting hit by a car)

I was in the car with my girlfriend and we are both fine.

If you are driving on 20, check out the tire marks in front of IHOP. It's in the middle lane. You might even find pieces of my car. You can keep those as souvenirs.

Now, my car looks like it was in Cloverfield. She's missing a big ol' chunk from the back. It's weird looking. BUT!!!!! She still goes! Yeah! I have to go through all the insurance fun, but hopefully we'll get some cosmetic surgery and she'll be as good as new...or sort of new.

Have you been in any fun car crashes? Most probably aren't fun, but this one wasn't bad.

I'm off to get some touch-up paint.

Enjoy!

soda

Hi again! I'm feeling fizzy today!

That's not supposed to sound weird. It actually means I'm talking about soda. These days, I don't drink a lot of soda. I don't know why, but I drink mostly water. I guess it's healthier or something.

BUT! Back in the day...way back before I cared about my health, I would drink a lot of soda...and it was good!

Top choice? Probably Cherry Coke...or IBC Root Beer...or Mug Root Beer...or Shasta!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shasta is a heavy duty orange-flavored soda. Check it out, you will find it has more calories per serving than any other orange-flavored soda. That's what gives it the Shas-tastic flavor. It's also a fun word to say as an expletive.

Example:

I'm walking down the street and WHAM!!! I get hit with a baseball bat. What do I say? Thas right! "Oh Shasta! That hurt!!!!!!" (yeah...the "t" is missing on purpose in "Thas"...it's fun to say it that way)

I found this site that remembers the old sodas that you can't find anymore.
http://listverse.com/miscellaneous/top-10-discontinued-sodas/

It's pretty cool. I also miss some of them. Crystal Pepsi and Slice. Oh...those were good!

And a Hubba Bubba soda?! How sweet is that! I can drink my bubble gum! Genius!

They are missing one soda that was super-rad. "OK" soda. It was an orange/cola-flavored soda. What made "OK" so fun was that you could call 1-800-I-FEEL-OK and hear weird messages about the magical properties of "OK" soda. You could also leave your own experiences.

I remember calling it once and the guy on the phone said, "I drank a can of OK soda. Then I took a bath and pushed in my belly-button and became invisible".

Why didn't I forget that? Because I tried it, like, a million times! Never worked.

I would call with my friends, Max and Tim, and we would leave a bunch of weird messages hoping the folks at "OK" would use them. I don't know if they ever did.

What soda do you miss? And does reading my blog give you any magical powers? I'd love to hear about both!

I'm off to fizz-out! Seriously, I like flat soda. Weird, right?

Enjoy!

word play

I just saw this movie yesterday called "Word Play". It's crazy! It is about people who do crossword puzzles.

You might do a crossword puzzle and it will take you a few hours to get it all done, but these people do it in, like, 2 minutes! How mad is that!

I remember my dad doing the crossword from the weekend paper and sometimes I would fill in an answer. Yeah...just one. If there was a question about Star Trek or comic books or something like that.

It's a cool movie to see. These people are so smart. If I were that smart...well...I probably wouldn't be keeping a blog that praised unicorns every few days.

Oh well...I guess unicorns are cooler than crossword puzzles. I mean, have you ever seen a crossword puzzle fly! Heck no!

Yeah...take that crossword! Or should I call you lame-word puzzle?!

I'm off to go across...or down...I don't know...

Enjoy!

pets

We took some phone calls from people who have a lot of pets this morning. It was interesting to hear about them.

I'm not much of a pet person myself. I had a few fish in my past, but nothing right now.

What do you have for pets? Does anybody have a lot of them?

I would like a pot-bellied pig, a desert tortoise and a small terrier. If I ever make enough money to get a home, I would like to get those things. Oh well...

Why those three things? They're cool!

That's all. I'm off to go back into my shell.

Enjoy!

fasting

Hi again. I read an article that people who fast have less heart disease.

Who am I to argue with scientific research! I decided to try it, so yesterday I ate everything faster. It was tough, but I want a healthy heart!

I CAN tell you that my tummy is still feeling icky from my fasting yesterday, but I'm pretty sure my heart is happy. It's thumping like crazy! It must be excited that I'm fasting!

I can't wait to fast again. I don't think I'm supposed to do it everyday because the article said it worked for people who "fast regularly". Though, maybe if I do it EVERY day, I'll have the healthiest heart on the planet! My heart would beat faster than everybody else's!

bdrbdrbdrbdrbdrbdrbdrbdr!!!!!!

(That's the sound of my speedy heart.)

Ok, I'm off to eat fast.

Enjoy!

hair cute

I got my hair cut yesterday (yes, I know it says "cute" up there). I was in a bit of a panic because my hair stylist was out on maternity leave, so I didn't know when she would get back.

I know! The horror!

She is back and just in time too! I have an appointment with the eye doctor next week. "Why does that matter?" you ask. You'll see...

Now, last year, I went to get my eyes checked and he said that I don't NEED glasses, but I can get some if I want.

I'm going to see how the eyes are this year, if they are getting worse, I'll probably get glasses. I'll let you know. BUT! I didn't want to get glasses without getting my haircut first!

How bad would that be? I wouldn't know if the glasses looked good because of my bad hair. That would just be chaos. Chaos!

I'm off to read the chart.

Enjoy!

mind over manner

Hey everybody. I just want to thank you for all your wonderful comments and attention.

That's just me showing some good manners. We talked about kids having good manners this morning. There is a school in England that is starting a "manner class" for their students. They will learn proper manners and the like.

I think this is a fabulous idea. It may make me sound old if I say "kids these days"...BUT, I was saying that when I was a kid. So...kids those days too.

What do you think? Do kids have good manners these days? Should it be taught in school? At home?

Speaking of manners, what does it mean to mind your P's and Q's? I mean, I always heard it, but never really thought about it until now. "P" could be please, but what could "q" mean? Please and Quank You? Is that how they said "thanks" in old English? Did they spell it with a q?

Person 1: Hear Ye! I seeketh an ale!

Person 2: Mind your P's and Q's!

Person 1: Forgiveth Me! Please, giveth me an ale!

Person 2: Me pleasure! An ale for thine belly!

Person 1: Quank Thee!

Golly...I wish I lived in ye olde times. They had some fun conversations.

That's enough of that, I'm offeth to practice my manners.

Enjoyeth!

spider-man

Ok, I wasn't sure if I wanted to do this as a post or not, but I think I will. If you don't like geeks yelling, then this is not for you, but if you find it fun to laugh at geeks getting all huffy puffy, then this is your lucky day! I will warn you...this is kind of long..

Now, in case you didn't know, Spider-Man has been married to Mary Jane for about 20 years. Also, not too long ago, Spidey showed the world that he was Peter Parker in a HUGE press conference.

Ok, here's the quick background: Aunt May was shot. Peter's been trying to find somebody to save her life. The demon Mephisto comes by to make a deal. He'll take the love from Peter and MJ's marriage and give Aunt May her life. Then MJ works out a secret little deal to make sure Peter's identity isn't known to the world.

POOF! It is done. Aunt May is alive and well. MJ and Peter never got married and nobody knows that Peter is Spider-Man.

Ready for the complaints? (Imagine me saying all this loud and fast with lots of hand waving) What kind of superhero makes a deal with the devil?!?! They know he can't be trusted! What's up with that?!

Now, I don't care if MJ and Peter are together. I like her, but it wouldn't bother me if they separated...some other way. But, since it "never happened", the last 20 years of comic books haven't happened. Oh, that's nice. That's like Voldemort saying a spell in the middle of the Harry Potter books that made it so Harry didn't go to Hogwarts, but instead went into Real Estate. All of a sudden, none of that aweomse stuff ever happened! Annoying, right?!

Also, everybody "forgot" that Peter is Spidey. They do know that Spidey took his mask off in a HUGE (as stated earlier) press conference, but nobody remembers who was under the mask. Somebody can just YouTube it and see it again, right? I guess not! Mephisto deleted it all!

Now, I know these are comic books and people come back to life and fly and travel through time, but they usually try to come up with something better than "we all forgot".

Seriously? We all forget? The whole world can't remember? How does that happen!

LAME!!!!!!

Phew...that is all. I'm sure I could go on forever, but you've suffered enough. I've warned you in the past that sometimes I have to post "geek stuff". I can't hide it all the time.

I'm off to go cuddle with my comic books.

Enjoy!

busy gym

We talked about the gym being busy this morning, but Dina and I were complaining a lot more that what got on the air.

It is SO busy there! Dina and I actually go to the same gym. Sometimes we'll ride bikes next to each other and pretend we're enjoying a friendly bike ride through the country and we'll sip tea and talk about ancient philosophy.

Ok, that's a complete lie. We'll say hi and then try to avoid each other as best we can. Hey, I just hung out with her all morning! Isn't that enough!

Anyways, we've noticed the "resolutioners" are all there trying to get some gym time in. I shouldn't complain that people want to be healthy, but I am. I tend to go early afternoon when a lot of people are at work. Well, apparently they are not at work because they are now at the gym!

I don't want them using my machines. I am very particular about which bike I use. Don't ask me why. I have no good reason. It's just the way I am.

I just wanted to vent.

Did you start going to the gym? Do you care if other people are there? Do you have to use a particular machine?

I'm off to stretch it out.

Enjoy!

pickles and ketchup (or catsup)

It's time to talk about food. Food is good. Food is there for you to enjoy...except vegetables...they're just icky.

I have a few food combinations that some people think are gross, BUT when you actually try it, you will find out they are awesome!

Would you like an example? Try a tuna fish sandwich, but put hot sauce on it. It's REALLY good. They compliment each other well. I didn't believe it at first either, but once I tried it, I was hooked.

Also, peanut butter and spinach sandwiches. It adds a tasty crunch to peanut butter. You can use lettuce if you don't like spinach.

NOW! I have a brand new awesome amalgamation. Pickles and ketchup. I watch this great kids show on the weekend called "Dragon". It's a cute show about a dragon who does silly things. Strangely, Dragon and I have a lot in common. I can relate to his mishaps.

Well, he likes to snack on different combinations of foods, and one time he was dipping his pickles in ketchup (on the show they spell it catsup). I tried it and it is great! Trust me. They go together really well.

What do you like? Is there anything that seems odd, but you love it? Let me know!

I'm off to eat some yummy snacks.

Enjoy!

rob thomas

We were talking about Rob Thomas today. He did the song for a commercial for the History Channel today. It's a cool tune.

Chris said that the History Channel is now cool. He was close. The History Channel was ALWAYS cool.

They did a show about how the earth was made. It had a professor from Mount Holyoke talking about plate tectonics. I don't remember his name, but if you have him as a teacher, tell him I said hi. And ask him how I can get on the History Channel.

As some of you know, I do a little acting. Whenever I watch a show on the History Channel, I always want to be a part of it. They get a ton of actors playing a genius in history or doing battles in ancient Rome and Greece. How cool would it be to get to wear a toga and carry a sword and a shield? I could be a Roman commander of some sort. Awesome.

Well, I hope everybody has a great weekend. I have to work on my Latin if I'm going to get a part.

Semper ubi sub ubi!

Enjoy!

resolution

It is the second day of the new year and I'm having a fantastic time! Why? I don't know, I just am. Shouldn't I just have a fantastic time all the time?

Did you make a resolution? I did not. I never do, but that's just me. I would love to hear your resolutions. I'd be interested in seeing what other people decide to do for their resolutions.

I'm not a resolution kind of guy. If I want to make a change in my life, I will attempt to do it as soon as I can to the best of my ability. I think I started doing that because I always knew a lot of people who would start saying that they would quit smoking for their resolution, but they would start saying it in September.

I always wondered why they didn't just try right away.

If I did make a resolution, it would be to learn how to fly. Not a plane or anything, just actually fly. Like Superman. Yeah...that will be my resolution this year. Let's see if I can do it!

I promise to try all year. I'll let you know as soon as it happens.

I'm off to go jump into the air...and stay there!

Enjoy!
